"Boulder River"
About this painting:
The Boulder River, a wild river valley that winds out of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness in Southern Montana. As the river winds up into the state's highest mountain range, huge draws and rocky cliffs create a cathedral like feel that surrounds you. With grizzlies, mountain lions, elk, deer, sheep and more, this is truly one of the most wild places in North America.
If you've ever been to Western Montana or anywhere along the Rockies you've probably been inspired by the gloomy blue horizons that can simply mesmerize any experienced traveler. I think what keeps me wanting to explore the mountains is the fact that you can never see it all. You can visit the same place over and over and then one gloomy day the clouds open up and the sun's brilliant rays shine through. You suddenly realize why you went out that day. You realize that no matter what happens, life is amazing. And all you can do is learn to appreciate that. Those moments are what inspire me every day when I step into my studio to create and it's what I was thinking about when I began this painting. I wanted to bring the viewer into a place that healed and inspired them. A small cabin or cottage sits deep within the mountains on a dark day. The clouds then part and the sun illuminates the valley with it's powerful rays, letting us know that life goes on. For that brief moment Mother Nature let's us know how beautiful life really is.
