"As Autumn Approaches"
About this painting:
Coming up from the city of West Yellowstone and entering the famous park, you wind through the Madison River valley. Large bluffs and rolling timbered ridges begin to surround the river. The bottom of the valley takes on this flat and open area which makes up the flood plain. I traveled through there several times as Fall began to approach. It was such an inspiring place to be. I pondered how wonderful it would be to live right there. I drew from those thoughts and inspiration to sketch out this idea. As the painting took shape my imagination took hold and it evolved into this lively piece that I titled "As Autumn Approaches." This may not be a literal depiction of the Madison River valley, but I wanted to bring the viewer to a place just as beautiful.
Of course the Mother black bear is getting her yearling cub ready for winter. The fish are migrating up the river to spawn. The mountain bluebirds are on the move to their wintering grounds. All while someone sits cozy inside a warm cottage, ready for snow. Keep an eye out as there might be a bald eagle spying from above in a tree!
